The Sandoval Lake Lodge is an eco lodge that is located within the Tambopata Candamo National Reserve on the shores of the most beautiful lake in Puerto Maldonado, the fact of being within the Reserve guarantees the good health of the ecosystems found in this area.
Staying at SLL you are supporting the Conservation of Natural Areas Protected by the Peruvian state, you pay an entrance fee that goes directly to the management of the Reserve.
The lodge benefits the local families by making them participate as shareholders of the lodge, in this way the population left aside activities that were not in accordance with the protected area, changing their main activity to eco tourism.
The sunrises and sunsets observed from a mirror of water are spectacular by the colorful reflections of the clouds in different shades of gray, orange, pink giving a feeling of being in a magical place, observe these wonders of nature in Lake Sandoval are only possible if you stay overnight at Sandoval Lake Lodge, sunrises are observed from a boat or catamaran and sunsets from the viewpoint in front of the lodge.
Puerto Maldonado is a growing city with a rural population that still lives from subsistence hunting, for that reason most of the lodges are surrounded by populations that somehow generate impacts on wildlife and forest. Sandoval Lake lodge is located within the Tambopata National Reserve and there is no hunting within the reserve so there is a large amount of wildlife (6 species of monkeys).
In the lake lives a family of giant otters (Pteronura brasiliensis), very early at 6 am the otters come out of their dens and are engaged in fishing and play, this activity is done until about 9 am, after this time the otters go into the swamp to avoid direct sunlight, there remain until about 4:00 pm when they leave the lake, when the temperature has dropped.
Staying at the SLL you have the possibility of seeing the giant otters at this time, since you are not in a hurry to leave.
Just like the giant otters that avoid the direct sun and high temperatures during the day, the rest of the fauna hides inside the forest. For that reason our tourists also do activities inside the forest and do not go out to the lake between 10 am and 3 pm. Tourists staying outside of the reserve arrive at the lake after 9 am and have to leave before 3 pm, which is why they do not see giant otters and see little wildlife.
And finally, only by staying overnight at Sandoval Lake Lodge is it possible to appreciate the nocturnal scenery and all the creatures of the night that can be seen in Sandoval Lake.
Unbeatable reasons to go to SLL.
